How we behave highly depends on our thinking and understanding of the world. This understanding is informed by the stories we tell, through education, politics, social media, etc. In the middle of a global pandemic, social movements and the climate crisis, those stories need to be questioned. The stories of human exceptionalism, living like we are on top of nature instead of part of nature contributes to our planet’s (our own) destruction. How can we use design to encourage people to imagine different stories? This I explored during GID. I learned there is no right way of understanding anything, to be a flexible thinker. Design is a powerful tool to change perceptions, to provide different understandings of reality. I think we should use these tools to work towards a better future.
