On March 14th 2020 I left for Tokyo, three weeks early, with no idea how long I would be staying and on a flight booked at Art Bar the night before. I had no idea how much that decision would influence my year. In a year that was limited for so many, I was able to explore a new city, meet new people and maintain my freedom.
That freedom allowed me to explore both my own interests as well as the broader responsibilities of designers. From contrasting community created benches to those available in designer catalogues to technical work in mental and physical health, I began to appreciate the freedom that we have as designers and engineers to choose the problems that we deem important.
GID above all else is an opportunity to spend two years exploring, new countries, new people and new problems; enjoy it!
